Data Reporting Analyst (Permanent)

Location: London Country: UK Rate: £38k - 48k per annum
 
Data and Reporting Analyst required to work for a government department. This is a permanent role, paying £38,000 - £48,000 per annum depending on experience. You'll be required onsite 1 day per month (London based offices).

As a Data Developer and Reporting Insight Analyst, you will provide high quality development of reports, analysis and interpretation of data, generating insight, and supporting the delivery of organisational priorities.

Main Accountabilities:
  • Working in partnership with key stakeholders and operational staff and peers to solve reporting requirements and identifying opportunities for improvement through insights derived by data.
  • Shape business requirements and processes, including processes, systems, quality management and performance measurement, and challenging existing ways of working to enable positive change.
  • Work closely with the other members of the Data and Insight team to define project solutions that fit within the organisation's strategic aims.
  • Working in partnership with managers and staff in operational teams, identify opportunities to increase their efficiency and effectiveness through the better use of data and information.
  • Apply analytical skills and understanding of the organisation to interpret and contextualise findings from data.
  • Working with colleagues in policy and operational teams, develop hypotheses about the organisation and its work, and use data to explore and test them in novel ways, looking for trends, patterns, outliers, and other insights.
  • Bring together data from different data sources including excel manual files to directly save data to the database using VBA coding or using SQL Server Business Intelligence tools.
  • Identify and amalgamate different business rules and to unify data to a master data level.
  • Resolve data gaps and data from Legacy systems to the current systems.
  • Development of reports, balanced scorecards, and dashboards, this will entail design, development, automation, and maintenance.
  • Measure and monitor data quality, working with operational teams to define data quality requirements, data quality metrics and business rules.
  • Actively engage in exploring emerging approaches to analysing and using data, bringing expertise to bear in solving organisational problems.
  • Introduce automation, wherever possible, to enable automation in the process of data extraction and collection.

Skills Required:
  • Advance TSQL querying experience is required. Experience in writing SQL using UNION, MERGE, CTEs, CROSS APPLY, PIVOT, UNPIVOT, Query tuning, RANKING, OVER and PARTITION by windows functioning. Develop stored procedures and functions.
  • Have knowledge of and hands on experience of Business Intelligence data models and the necessity of these for good reporting. Experience required of developing tables and indexes.
  • Report and dashboard design, development, automation, and maintenance using Tableau, PowerBI, SSRS or another reporting tool. Reporting from SQL Server and SSAS Tabular cubes
  • Experience in bringing together different data sources using business tools such as SSIS.
  • Ability to identify problematic data quality areas (in both systems and processes) and develop tools to monitor and enable improvement.
  • Always looking for continuous improvement, to improve and develop skills (training is provided), also continuous improvement of ways of working. The successful candidate will have passion for learning an analytical language such as Python.
